Viola

Viola soloist, chamber artist, academic lecturer, assistant professor at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk (habilitated PhD, MBA), certified teacher at the Zygmunt Noskowski Music School in Gdynia, national consultant at the Center for Artistic Education (CEA).

In 2012 graduated with honors from the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk in the Master’s viola class of professor Irena Albrecht. He perfected his skills at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Prof. Wolfgang Klos and as. Ulrich Schönauer and as a guest student of the Swedish National Orchester Academy in Göteborg. Educated and supplemented his studies with numerous courses under the direction of prominent viola pedagogues such as Alexander Zemtsov, Matthias Buchholz, Hartmut Rohde, Avri Levitan.

Komendarek-Tymendorf has acquired his knowledge of chamber music from renowned musicians such as: Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartett), Peter Schuhmayer (Artis Quartett), Apollon Musagète Quartett, Quatuor Ebène, Eberhard Feltz, Peter Matzka and Averis Kuyumjian.

Prizewinner at national and international competitions, awards and scholarships. 

Debuted as soloist with the Polish Chamber Philharmonie Orchestra Sopot and as chamber player with T. Wojnowicz at the T. Baird Philharmonie Hall in Zielona Gora. Since 2010, a member of the Duo del Gesú chamber ensemble. 

Komendarek-Tymendorf has been invited to perform concerts as a viola soloist with the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot, the Lower Silesian Philharmonic, Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra, Cappella Gedanensis, Progress Chamber Orchestra, Baltic Youth Philharmonic and the Chamber Orchestra of the Stanisław Moniuszko Music Academy.  

Worked as a soloist-leader of the viola section in many international symphony and chamber orchestras.

Performed and participated in various international festivals: Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival-Usedomer Music Festival, La Folle Journée, Baltic Sea Festival, Puplinge Classique Festival, Alba Music Festival, International Viola Congress, Spectrum Music Festival, Aurora Music Festival, Apollon Musagète Festival – Internationales Musikfest, Wörthersee Classics Festival.

In 2020 he made phonographic debut with a CD entitled ReVIOLAtion on the NAXOS record label (Germany) and in 2021 he produced another album entitled Quantum of Silence on the ODRADEK RECORDS label (USA). The albums received many prestigious awards, distinctions and nominations as well as very high foreign and domestic reviews.

Lecturer at music courses and juror of competitions. Director of the EURO Chamber Music Festival Gdańsk and Viva Viola Festivity, initiator of the 3V project – Vision Viola Voyage, ambassador of the nationwide social campaign Save the Music.

The artist is a protagonist of viola and new music and has performed over 20 world premieres. Contemporary composers dedicate their works to him. His articles are published, among others in the Journal of the American Viola Society (USA) and on meakultura.pl.  

Artist leads intensified concerts, pedagogical and didactic activity in Poland and abroad.
